Adapun pokok-pokok bahasan yang terkandung di surah Al-Balaad, yaitu Sesungguhnya penciptaan manusia oleh Allah Swt. bertujuan untuk berjuang dalam menghadapi kesulitan. Manusia juga dianjurkan untuk tidak mudah terpedaya oleh harta benda maupun kekuasaan; Peringatan bagi manusia atas kenikmatan yang telah Allah Swt. berikan kepadanya. Allah Swt. juga senantiasa memberi petunjuk berupa jalan-jalan yang akan menuntun kepada kebahagiaan, tetapi ada juga jalan yang akan membawa manusia kepada kecelakaan; Bahwasannya jalan yang membawa manusia ke arah kebahagiaan akan sulit untuk ditempuh dibandingkan dengan jalan yang menuntun manusia ke arah kesengsaraan; Surah Al-Balad mempunyai hubungan dengan surah Asy-Syams. Kedua surah ini sama-sama menerangkan tentang dua jalan yang ditunjukkan Allah Swt. kepada manusia. Di Asy-Syams dijelaskan bahwa mereka yang takwa akan bahagia, tapi yang fasik malah merugi.
